《Rising of the Reborn Luna》

'Gosh! Why does it freaking hurt?'

Aminah cursed mentally. Her body felt like it was getting torn to shreds.

'Is this what death is supposed to feel like?'

While confused and troubled, a nervous voice cut through her thoughts.

"Alpha, have mercy. She'll perish if we continue to draw her blood at this rate! She's still your mate!"

Blue River pack doctor persuaded. Beads of sweat dripped from his forehead as he glanced at the guy beside him with anxious eyes.

The young Alpha breathed a deep growl. His cold blue eyes glowed through the dungeon's darkness as he looked at the almost lifeless lady kneeling on the frigid stone floor with both hands chained to the walls.

"It would be great if she died. A lady like her isn't worthy of being my mate."

'Mate? What's going on? Didn't I already die after those mutts injected me with wolfsbane?'

Her head pounded as her confusion got even more tangled.

Her last memory was dying after her fellow warriors betrayed her on a mission. They injected her with a high dose of wolfsbane, enough to kill hundreds of werewolves. She should have kicked the bucket long ago, so why does she still feel pain?

Her forehead creased as she slowly opened her eyes. Although her vision was fuzzy, she could see the faint silhouettes of people in doctor's coats around her. However, it was pretty dark to be in the hospital.

'Where am I?'

A sudden splitting headache struck her before she could make sense of it all, followed by a surge of memories that didn't belong to her, almost torturing her to death.

"Ah!" she faintly gasped.

After assimilating the memories, she finally understood that she had indeed died and now been reborn in the body of this girl with the same name as her, Aminah.

The guy with ice-cold eyes before her was the original host's mate, Cyrus Blueriver. Today was supposed to be their wedding day, but the original host's former best friend barged into the moon temple and interrupted their oath. She claimed to be pregnant with Cyrus' pup and insisted they were deeply in love. She climbed up to the altar, begging the original host to step aside for the pup's sake, and then framed her for pushing her down the steps.

The best friend was taken to the hospital before her eyes while they dragged the original host to the dungeon.

Said to be in a critical state, the original host's former best friend needed a blood transfusion, but her blood type was uncommon in the werewolf world. Coincidentally, the original host had the same blood type as hers, so Cyrus rallied the doctors to her cell and drew her blood like cattle.

As the memories reached this point, Cyrus's ruthless words suddenly interrupted Aminah's thoughts.

"This vicious lady's heart is made of stone. She won't die easily. Continue!"

Aminah clenched her fist tight, feeling a searing pain in her chest like a knife carving through her heart.

'Heartless scumbag!' she cursed.

There was nothing she could do to relieve the pain. It was an instinctual response from the original host's hurt and despair.

Aminah looked at Cyrus with clear and burning eyes. From now on, she will live as Aminah Burnhart and make sure those who owed her in the past will pay for everything they had done.

"She's struggling!" the nurses exclaimed.

"Hold her down!" Cyrus commanded.

Aminah defiantly tried to break free. She summoned all her strength to break the chains while the others forced her to submission. However, her determination trumped the strength of the five warriors. The chains rattled through the dungeon as she continued to resist.

Annoyed, Cyrus grabbed a thorn whip, subduing her with the tinge of silver nitrate coating the thorns.

"Have you gone feral, Aminah?! Megan's still waiting for blood, so kneel and be a good mutt!" Cyrus roared, aiming to whip her again, but Aminah broke the chains and swiftly threw off everyone restraining her.

Aminah stood in the middle of that cold cell. Her cold gaze swept through the dimly lit dungeon, frightening the doctors and nurses with her abrupt change.

"Looks like you still have a bit of strength in you, witch!" Cyrus growled and hit her with another lash, but Aminah caught it in ith her hand.

She looked at Cyrus with an expressionless face. Her indifferent voice tinged with impatience as she said, "Who do you think you are? Why are you so insistent on sacrificing me to save Megan?"

"Why?" Cyrus' fuse busted. "How dare you ask why?! Do you think she'd be in critical condition if you didn't push her down the stairs?!" he roared.

"Heh!" Aminah sneered. "Are you deaf or just plainly stupid? I've told you before Megan's faking it. She deliberately fell and blamed me."

Aminah had explained this to Cyrus tearfully countless times, but he just wouldn't believe her.

"Enough! I saw you push her myself, and you still won't admit it?!" Cyrus looked at her with disgust.

"Ah..." Aminah shook her head with disappointment. "So, you weren't just deaf. You're also blind," she mocked.

"What did you say?!" Cyrus couldn't believe his ears. The previous Aminah had always been submissive to him, obedient to whatever he said. She never talked back, yet the words that had just come out of her mouth were unlike anything she would say.

Aminah flung the whip away, her body swaying slightly due to excessive blood loss and the effects of silver nitrate.

Cyrus's patience had worn thin. "I'll say it again. Kneel, or I'll immediately banish you from the pack! You'll face the consequences of crossing your Alpha!"

Approaching Cyrus, Aminah looked up at him without a trace of subservience or anger. "You didn't believe me, right? I can make you believe."

"Aminah! Didn't you hear me? I told you to—"

Aminah's fist shot straight into his gut and cut him off.

"Ugh—" Cyrus grunted in pain, falling on his knees. His face turned red and purple, his temples bulging with strained veins.

'This power! How could she have this much strength?'

That was right. How could she be that powerful? The excessive blood loss aside, she couldn't have hurt a low-ranked warrior, let alone an Alpha like him, since she was wolfless. Cyrus still couldn't believe why the moon goddess paired him with such a useless mate. But, now...

Cyrus turned to look at Aminah, but she had already escaped the cell and was nowhere around the dungeon.

'Not good! She'll go after Megan!' Cyrus panicked and forgot about his pain. He quickly got up and ran after Aminah.

Meanwhile, Aminah arrived at the hospital ward where Megan was admitted. She casually opened the door and locked it from the inside.

Cyrus quickly caught up with her and started banging on the door.

"Aminah! Open the door! I'm warning you! If you hurt Meg, I'll make your life a living prison you'd wish for death!" He yelled through the observation window.

Ignoring Cyrus's threatening roars, Aminah approached Megan with leisurely arrogance.

Megan was sweating profusely. Her face was as pale as a blank sheet of paper.

"Not bad, Megan. You got my ten points for your acting skills. You managed to make everyone believe you're a victim." Aminah commented, almost making Megan roll her eyes.

How dare a wolfless waste like her speak to her like that?

Just as that thought flashed in Megan's head, Aminah suddenly grabbed her wrist and felt her pulse – a strange light glistened across her eyes in a swift second.

"Aminah, I beg you. Please, don't–don't harm my baby. Just wait until after he's born. You can treat me however you want, but please don't hurt my baby!" Megan cried pitifully. Her seemingly weak appearance tugged on Cyrus' heart.

Cyrus continuously pounded on the door, threatening Aminah with the same threats. He tried ramming his body to open it, but it strangely wouldn't budge.

Aminah released Megan's hand and stood by the bed, looking down at Megan. "Megan, you phony witch. You were really faking your pregnancy.."

Megan's pupils instantly dilated, and she stared at Aminah in disbelief.

'How did she know?'

Right. How could Aminah possibly know? Did she find out when she grabbed her wrist earlier?

'Impossible!'

Aminah was just a wolfless mutt! She couldn't have known anything to back that up.

"What... What are you saying? I–I don't understand." Megan quivered.

“Aminah, I'm about to die. If you want to kill me, it's okay. But my baby is innocent. Please, I beg you, spare us..." Megan continued to feign helplessness.

'You're still pretending?'

Aminah's mouth curved with a scornful smile.

"Megan, how about we make a bet?"

"What—"

"Five minutes. I'll expose your true colors. If I can't, then you'll probably get to live."

Megan felt sudden unease, seeing Aminah's devilish smile.

What was she planning to do?

Before Megan could figure it out, a burning pain shot from her face as Aminah almost knocked her out with a slap.

I finally found a good place to read novels!
